Tea focus - Morning Rescue
Morning Rescue was one of the original 6 tea blends designed by Bethan when HotTea Mama was launched.
From Bethan
"Originally inspired by the horrible pregnancy sickness that I had with my son. Sickness affects half of all pregnancies, or more, and I wanted to create a tea to support others in the same situation. It is now a staple caffeine-free alternative for a morning builders brew for many, as its soothing properties can support a caffeine-conscious diet."
Bethan had spent many years blending and buying tea before starting HotTea Mama with Kate. With her degree in tea science she knew what herbs and botanicals would be beneficial and safe for women during pregnancy, but also how to also make them taste delicious.
The ingredients in Morning Rescue give it an uplifting and zingy flour profile. It packs a punch of citrus, with a warming spiciness, and a freshness of mint.
Using three different types of lemon in the blend ensures that the sweet, zesty citrus notes are the perfect base for the tea.
Its ingredients:
Lemongrass - which has notes of mint in its flavour profile.
Lemon Balm - makes the flavour mellow and warming, and can also help to ease pain and discomfort from indigestion.
Lemon Verbena - is bright and slightly sweet, with a gentle hint of citrus.
Ginger - The blend contains whole pieces of Ginger, which bring a warming tingle to the tea, and also can help to relieve bloating.
African Mint - finishes the blend with a sweet minty note.
Benefits
There is no caffeine in this blend, which makes it safe for pregnancy and all low caffeine diets.
Morning Rescue's ingredients have all been used for millennia to support happy tummies. Their benefits link to the gingerols in the ginger, and citrals in the lemon-y ingredients, which are both anti-inflammatory.
In China and India, there is a long history of ginger being used to treat stomach upsets and nausea. In a small scale study 30 pregnant women with severe vomiting, took 1 gram of ginger every day for 4 days and reported more relief from vomiting than those who took placebo. In a larger study of 70 pregnant women with nausea and vomiting, those who got a similar dose of ginger felt less nauseous, and did not vomit as much as those who got placebo. This is why ginger is a key ingredient in this blend.
Morning Rescue also contains lemongrass, lemon verbena and mint, all of which have traditional use to relieve nausea and stomach upsets. The research on the effectiveness of lemongrass, lemon verbena and mint, is less conclusive than ginger, but their long use means it has got to be worth a shot!
