Night Owl is not a medicine and results will vary between individuals. However, all six key ingredients have a body of peer-reviewed research supporting their role in reducing anxiety, promoting muscle relaxation and/or improving sleep quality.

Below is a summary of the key evidence for each ingredient. Links to the primary studies are provided for those who wish to read further.

      Chamomile

Night Owl is a delicate balanced blend, with the lightness of chamomile and lavender undertones

Valerian Root - carefully blended to include enough Valerian Root to help to relax you, but not have too overtly ‘woody’ a taste.

Lavender - a delicate floral note of lavender lifts the blend.

Lime flowers -  Also known as linden flowers, Lime Flowers have been used for centuries to treat anxiety, and sleep disorders. They give this blend a sweet aroma which pairs perfectly with its chamomile base.

Chamomile - brings a soothing, mellow floral note to the blend

Rooibos - high in antioxidants, and adds a touch of Seville Orange sweetness

Can I drink Night Owl while breastfeeding?
Yes - all six ingredients in Night Owl have been carefully balanced with breastfeeding mamas in mind. We recommend limiting yourself to no more than 3 cups of any one herbal tea per day. Try having a cup around one hour before your baby’s final feed of the evening. The calming properties of the blend may pass through your breast milk and could help make bedtime a little easier for both of you.

Is Night Owl safe in pregnancy?
Night Owl is not recommended during pregnancy. While the individual ingredients are gentle, the combination of botanicals in therapeutic quantities means we cannot confirm it is safe for use in pregnancy. For pregnancy-safe options, please browse our Pregnancy teas collection.

Is Night Owl suitable for menopause?
Absolutely. Night Owl is one of our most popular teas for women in perimenopause and menopause. Broken sleep, nighttime wakefulness and anxiety are among the most common menopause symptoms, and Night Owl’s blend of chamomile, valerian root and lime flowers has been specifically shown to help with all three. It is also caffeine-free, which is important as caffeine can worsen hot flushes. We often recommend pairing it with our Take A Pause
menopause blend for a complete day-and-night support routine.

How many cups does one bag make?
Each biodegradable pyramid bag makes at least two cups of tea. Leave the bag in for a stronger brew, or pop it straight into the fridge after your first cup to make an iced version. Because our bags contain whole-leaf botanicals — not dust or fannings — the flavour holds beautifully on second and third use.

How does Night Owl compare to other herbal sleep teas?
Most commercial herbal sleep teas use single ingredients (chamomile only, or valerian only) or blend them with low-grade tea dust. Night Owl uses six whole-leaf, certified organic botanicals, each chosen for its specific evidence-backed contribution to relaxation and sleep. The result is a more complex, more effective and more delicious blend. It has won two independent awards and is recommended by sleep professionals.

      Is Night Owl organic?
Yes. All six ingredients - chamomile flowers, valerian root, lavender, lime flowers, rooibos and cornflowers - are 100% certified organic. There are no artificial flavourings, colours, preservatives or sweeteners.

      Is the packaging plastic-free?
Yes. Both the outer box and the individual pyramid tea bag wrapping are plastic-free and biodegradable. You can pop the individual wrapper in your food waste bin. The tea bag itself is also fully compostable.

      Can children drink Night Owl?

Night Owl is formulated for adult women. If you’re considering it for children, please consult your GP or a qualified herbalist first. Valerian root is not generally recommended for young children.

What does Night Owl taste like?

Night Owl is soft, floral and sweetly gentle. The whole chamomile flowers give a mellow, honey-like base. Lavender lifts the blend with a delicate floral note. Lime flowers add a sweet, slightly honeyed aroma. Rooibos brings a touch of warm, Seville orange sweetness. Valerian root grounds it with a subtle earthiness. It is not bitter, not grassy and not medicinal — just beautifully soothing.

When is the best time to drink Night Owl?

About 30–60 minutes before bed is ideal. If you’re breastfeeding, try timing it about an hour before your baby’s final feed so the calming properties have time to work and can pass through your milk. If you’re in menopause and prone to nighttime waking, some customers find keeping a pre-brewed cup in the fridge to drink when they wake works well.

      • Hot Brew
      • Iced Tea

      • Each of our packs has simple instructions on it, but essentially you should use 1 tea bag per person, and freshly boiled water for all except Head Start. This tea works best with 80-degree water (let your kettle sit for 5 minutes with the lid open after boiling). Brew for 3-5 minutes depending on how strong you like it.

      • hot_brew_image
      • Use 1 bag per 300ml of water (this is the average size of a water glass) Add freshly boiled water, as if you were making a normal cuppa. Place the glass, with the tea bag still in, in your fridge to cool. Enjoy once cool - add lots of ice and fruit if you're feeling fancy.
